Since we've released the full album, and subscribers have had time to digest it, Pizza Hell would like to discuss some of the "behind-the-scenes" aspects of this work. It helps to see a portion of the final page from the comic that comes along with the album. Only slight spoilers here.
The most important thing to talk about here is that the album was never planned with this in mind, it just sort of happened. When we started production of the album, it was Jason (artists & writer of No Funnies) and Adams (co-writer of the Pizza Saga, producer & engineer of the album) who got together for a session developing three songs that would be used. It was so much fun to generate this music on the spot, that we met a few more times, each time developing 3 - 4 songs per session, with no development of them before getting together for a session, other than lyrics Jason had written down before. Later as this base for the songs was finished, we brought Cary (solo guitar licks through the album) in to add another few layers. At this point, thanks to Cary's incredible melodies, we felt the album really came alive and was ready to carry the Pizza name forward.
Spoiler: this is why Purple Stool makes an appearance in the comic, as he is an accidental creation of Cary's when he thought he saw the character in the last panel of The Tea Wizard Hollers At Sally The Punk Blocker At A Party.
After all the songs were completed, we started to order the tracks in a way that each session would be represented but not follow the other. We placed them in order that made sense musically and upon listening back, the epiphany that you read here from No Wave Star dropped. It was sent to Jason over a text message and developed here for the comic.
This album was a lot of fun to create and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it. Take from the songs and song order what you will, but now you see a little from the insight of the creators here.
